At The Bunny Burrow Playgarden, our care and philosophy are guided by the teachings of Rudolf Steiner and the principles of Waldorf education. Our mission is to provide a safe, loving, peaceful, nature-based, home away from home for young ones to experience themselves, others and the world.

Our culture today is fast paced, high stimulus, pressure filled and anxiety ridden. We are providing a protected period of time, at the beginning of each child’s life, that is slow, gentle, calm and insulated from the adult world in order to create a foundational sense of security and a belief that the world is safe, people are good and they are enough.  We strive to help children create a deeply regulated energetic baseline, so that later in life, when they are in school, or at work, or encountering hardship, they can go inside of themselves and find safety and security. 

 

Young children learn best when they can feel at home. We offer an extension to the child’s family and home life via constant communication and collaboration between "Nurturers" and parents. Communication and parent education helps provide understanding and continuity of care.  Miss Dede’s home daycare is designed to be both a functional home as well as a play space.  The children become part of a loving community, with experienced teachers and a multi-aged group of children, which is designed to reflect a family structure.  Children find belonging within the group and are able to experience their own growth in relationship to others as they go from being one of the younger children, receiving help from the older ones, to becoming one of the older children who are able to help the younger ones.

We are teaching children through play-based learning how to grow into themselves at their own individual pace, in a healthy, wholehearted way. We build rituals together and follow a rhythm, while staying flexible to adapt to the ever-changing tides of life.  We hold space for wonder and awe, and we practice cultivating reverence and joy. Our activities are designed to promote the development of social skills, emotional growth, and physical coordination as well as developmentally appropriate cognitive learning.

The Bunny Burrow Playgarden is a safe space – for children as they grow, for parents as they navigate the challenging and vulnerable task of making decisions for their children, and for Nurturers as they find purpose and fulfillment in selflessly dedicating themselves to meaningful work in the world.
